The published Pacaya volcano entrance fee is Q100 for foreign visitors. Guatemalan nationals pay Q30. Checked October 2026. Diario de Centro América, Guatemala's official newspaper, gave these park rates on 14 October.

Its report covers a town council and INGUAT announcement. Budget in Guatemalan quetzales. Add guide and transport costs unless your booking includes them.

In brief: use Q100 or Q30 as the published admission amount for the relevant visitor category. Check child or student rates before leaving. Ask how to pay at your entrance. A tour deposit does not by itself cover park entry.

Visitor category Published admission Evidence and check date
Foreign tourist Q100 per person Municipality announcement reported by Diario de Centro América, checked October 2026
Guatemalan national Q30 per person Same report, checked October 2026

The report covers the local Senderos de Leyendas event. It says the entry price is the same as normal park entry. These rates come from a current official news report.

We did not obtain a full fee list from the park. It does not give the rules for children or students. It also leaves resident status unclear.

Ask the town council about those cases. Do not assume an adult rate or make up a discount.

Where and how to pay

Arrange payment at the park's admission point unless your seller confirms it collects entry for you. Ask which desk at your named entrance issues the ticket.

Bring enough quetzales for your entry and the guide you book. The local guide-booking site recommends cash in small notes. Checked October 2026. That advice supports bringing cash; it is not proof of a park-wide ban on cards.

No current park-issued payment policy was retrieved. Ask if your entry desk needs cash. Check if the seller pays entry for you in advance. Do not assume that using a card to book a tour means you can use it at the gate. Ask for an entry ticket or receipt and check who has already paid for the group.

Who can confirm an unusual category

The Ministry of Culture's Pacaya listing publishes the municipality contact 7889-2536, or +502 7889-2536 from outside Guatemala. Ask that contact what proof you need for your rate. Find out where to pay. It is a published contact, not a claim that we called or obtained a private confirmation.

For children or students, send the ages and any relevant document details when asking for a quote. If you live in Guatemala but are not a citizen, ask which rate applies. Do not assume your address settles the charge. Save the answer with your visit date. If the rate changes, ask for the revised basis before comparing the total with an earlier quote.

Separate the entrance charge from the tour price

A seller can advertise an outing price and still collect the park charge as a separate payment. Look for both the inclusions and exclusions. A large “included” heading does not help if entry appears lower down as an extra. Save the terms for the actual product and date you choose.

For a named example, OX Expeditions' Pacaya day trip lists guiding among its inclusions and park entry as excluded. We checked that page in October 2026. This shows which costs that package keeps apart. It is not evidence for the amount the park will charge you.

The Gray Line Pacaya and hot-springs trip plan also distinguishes its included thermal circuit and meal from excluded Pacaya entry. This is a distinct product with a separate venue. Do not read inclusion of the pool as inclusion of the park. Check both entrance plans on a combined day.

This is an inclusion comparison, not a tariff or a live offer. Confirm the version available for your date before relying on it. A marketplace may sell a similarly named trip with distinct terms. Match the seller and the actual trip plan, rather than the title alone.

Guide and transport payments need their own basis

Ask whether a guide charge applies to your party, each visitor or a shared group. Confirm which part of the route it covers and how any language service is arranged. A transport driver is not automatically the walking guide. A guide included in a package does not by itself settle the current park guiding requirement.

The guide and access page explains that rule-checking gap. The published admission amount does not by itself cover guiding. Resolve the service and its price together. Keep a separate record of what entry covers.

Transport needs a defined start and finish. A price per seat from Antigua cannot be compared directly with a whole vehicle from a city hotel. Ask what happens if your pickup is outside the normal service area. Include the return address in the quote so that a later change does not surprise you.

If you plan to leave bags in a vehicle, confirm that plan too. Extra luggage may affect the vehicle or service quoted. Do not assume storage is part of the walking guide's work. An all-in total is useful only when the underlying services match your party's needs.

Optional spending should stay optional

Food experiences, a thermal stop and horse services can appear alongside the basic visit. They are not all park entry. Ask who provides each extra and what happens if it is unavailable. Do not pay for an essential transport or guide gap by assuming an optional service will solve it.

For a meal, confirm whether drinks and dietary requests are part of the stated price. For a thermal visit, name the establishment and which facilities are included. Ask how the transfer between the walk and the venue works. A shared name such as “hot springs” does not define a specific package.

We do not publish an assumed horse rate or treat a horse as a guaranteed way to finish. If your party needs that service, ask if it is offered. Check which route sections it covers. A number in another traveller's account does not reserve a horse. Make a walking and return plan that the seller can actually support.

Likewise, a tip is not the same as a required entry or guide payment. Read the booking's stated terms and ask about anything unclear. Do not count a voluntary item as included entry. Keep those costs apart so the total is clear. Do not invent one budget for every visit.

Currency and payment at the point of use

Get the currency in writing for every amount. A site may show a booking in your home currency. An extra local charge may still use quetzales. Check whether an online amount is a deposit or the full payment. Ask when the balance is due and to whom it is paid.

We have no current park policy on cards or small change. Do not assume that a card used to reserve a tour can pay entry at the entrance. Ask what cash, if any, you should bring for your category. Confirm the receipt or ticket that should follow payment.

Avoid making a live exchange-rate calculation from an old blog. If you need a home-currency estimate, use a current conversion source and keep it separate from the actual amount due. Any card or exchange fee depends on your payment method. The park's stated charge and your final bank cost are distinct figures.

For a group, assign one person to keep the written inclusions and payment record. Note which items are already paid and which remain due. This avoids paying the same item twice or arriving with everyone assuming someone else has covered it. Keep personal category documents with the people who may need to show them.

A budget check you can send before booking

Use a short request that states your date and party, without treating any old price as agreed. Ask the seller to fill in the services for the trip they are actually selling. Request a clear answer to each missing item. You can then compare like with like.

  • What park entry applies to each member of our party?
  • Is that entry included in this booking or paid as an extra?
  • What guiding does the quoted price cover?
  • Does transport include our exact pickup and return address?
  • Which meals or other extras have a separate charge?
  • What currency and payment method apply to the remaining balance?
  • What changes or refunds apply if the visit cannot proceed as described?

These are practical booking questions, not a claim that a seller can set park rules. If the seller quotes an official charge, ask for the underlying tariff or confirmation. A clear source makes later changes easier to understand. Save the response with your voucher rather than only in a temporary chat.

Verdict: settle the Pacaya volcano entrance fee before departure

The published Pacaya volcano entrance fee is Q100 for foreign visitors and Q30 for nationals. Confirm any special category and payment method with the responsible source. Then add only the guide, transport and extras your booking actually needs. Do not compare headline prices until those parts agree.

The hiking guide explains how the services fit around the walk. The Pacaya overview gives the setting behind the trip. Keep both separate from a current entry confirmation.
